In 2021, the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission (RRAC) borrowed $3.5 million through the Virginia Airports Revolving Fund to acquire a parcel adjacent to the airport. The loan was secured by general airport revenues and pledged passenger facilities charge revenues. The Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport serves a 19-county region in both Virginia and West Virginia. The funding and subsequent land acquisition will allow the airport to increase its footprint for future development and revenue generation.
