In March 2022, the Trust for Public Land closed on a $5.8 million financing through the Clean Water Revolving Loan Fund to acquire the land around Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County for interim conservation stewardship. The Natural Bridge is a 215-foot-tall limestone arch carved out by Cedar Creek which has drawn visitors since the 1700s. The land has now been transferred to the Commonwealth of Virginia for permanent stewardship. The financing allowed for the protection of over 1,500 acres of land surrounding Natural Bridge, which has been designated as a National Historical Landmark since 1998.
